There once was a woman who lived in the fertile land of Wicklow at the foot of the mountains who had horns growing out of her head. Her name was Brigit and it was said she was a descendent of the Tuatha De Danan, the pagan gods of Ireland.
Local people were shy towards her but drunk men were bold. Even though her antler horns made her below the other women of the village, her beauty put her above all in the county. Brigit kept herself to herself but helped the sick people in the village by mixing powerful herbs to sooth aches, pains and emotional upsets.
One dark night a young man followed Brigit into the forest and as she picked her herbs, he expressed his burning desire for her. Brigit was frightened and asked him to leave her alone. Humiliated, he told the villagers how he had seen Brigit dancing naked for the devil under the full moon. The village shunned her, forgetting all the good she had done for them...
